Ljubljana, 1 February 2021 – On Friday, 29 January 2021, DARS decided on SkyToll as the winning bid in the tender for the construction and operation of the new electronic vignettes system in Slovenia. SkyToll technologies will deliver Slovenia a solution that is reliable, user-friendly and cost-efficient.
SkyToll offered a tender price of €15.7 million, which is final and includes the costs of building the system and five-year support. „The cost of charging passenger cars in Slovakia has fallen by 60 percent compared to the previous system of motorway stickers as a result of the SkyToll solution, with revenues currently rising by more than 15 percent in the first year following the introduction of electronic vignettes. This new system of electronic vignettes will also mean a more cost-efficient and user-friendly way for Slovenia to pay for motorway usage, compared to the existing motorway stickers,” said Matej Okáli, CEO and Chairman of SkyToll.
The winning bid in the Slovenian tender is also based on experience with the development of an electronic toll system based on GNSS technology in the Czech Republic. That SkyToll system reduced costs by two thirds in the Czech Republic and increased toll collection income by 5 percent last year. „I am confident that after the tender-defined period – from the selection of the winning bid to the conclusion of the tender and signing of the contract with DARS, during which additional procedural steps will take place – SkyToll will build a system in Slovenia that meets the expectations of motorists using Slovenian motorways,” concluded Mr Okáli.
