A MAJOR STEP TOWARDS ROAD INFRASTRUCTURE CHARGING IN TAJIKISTAN: MINISTRY OF TRANSPORT OF THE REPUBLIC OF TAJIKISTAN AND SKYTOLL SIGN MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING

Bratislava, 26 August 2024 – The Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Tajikistan and SkyToll, a leading Slovak company in the global road infrastructure charging industry, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support significantly the development of Tajikistan’s road infrastructure.

The signing took place in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. Under this MoU, both parties have committed to implementing a „Satellite-Based Electronic Tolling and Enforcement System“ in Tajikistan. This project represents a leap forward in transportation technology, promising to enhance efficiency and compliance in the region.

“A fundamental premise for developing transportation infrastructure is securing financial resources for the ongoing maintenance and restoration of roads, bridges, and other structures. Embracing our responsibility to future generations, we are committed to cooperating with renowned partners and investing in advanced, proven technologies. These investments will not only transform Tajikistan’s infrastructure but also bring significant benefits to the entire region,” said Azim Ibrohim, the esteemed Minister of Transport of the Republic of Tajikistan.

Both parties have committed to collaboratively working on the framework definition, legislative impacts, and operational aspects of the project, titled “Satellite-based Electronic Tolling and Enforcement System Including Operational Services in the Territory of Tajikistan”.

With a wealth of knowledge, 15 years of experience, and strong capital base, we are prepared to establish strong partnership aimed at setting new standards in transportation technology and supporting the development of modern infrastructure,“ said Peter Polakovič, Chief Strategy and Business Development Officer at SkyToll.

The  Ministry of Transport of Tajikistan will be responsible for providing the necessary land, approvals, and governmental support, including legislative adjustments. Both parties have agreed to cover their respective costs associated with the implementation of the MoU.

The signing of this MoU marks a pivotal moment in Tajikistan’s journey towards modernizing its road infrastructure. The implementation of a state-of-the-art, satellite-based electronic tolling and enforcement system is not only a technological advancement but also a strategic investment in the nation’s future. By ensuring a steady revenue stream through tolls, Tajikistan can continually invest in enhancing the safety, efficiency and reliability of its transportation network.

The enhanced road infrastructure, supported by sustainable tolling scheme, promises to facilitate smoother and more efficient trade routes, boosting economic growth and regional connectivity,“ said Minister Ibrohim.
